Emptyheaded/ Leere

Hugs for Haiti!

This is one of those mornings when the body moves automatically through the routine motions and the mind catches up moments later. But that's okay. There's a pleasant emptiness, a silence in my head. Yay!

Nomad/ Nomadin

I am a clown at heart and a nomadic soul. Actually, I planned a different first line for this morning, but that one came out. Oh well, I love when my fingers know better than my head does and say what they need to say.

The nomadic bit is ready to move. I suppose I need a profession that will take me places. Always envisioned myself sailing around the world bringing good stuff to every shore. Dunno how that will work out when I grow up--if ever, but the shadow of the dream is rearing its head again.

And since loads of things I've waited years for seem to be happening now, who knows what might be? Hugs for Haiti!

Heute bin ich noch etwas benommen. Ha!

Twist/ Drehung

Just rediscovered the Carpenters! Thank God for You Tube. How on earth did I live without it? The Carpenters songs nurtured me throughout my childhood. Haven't heard them for ages--until today.Yay!

Anyway, yesterday I thought I was going to blog about going to Norway. Then my Canadian immigration application turned up. Ha! It never rains but it pours. Opportunities galore! I have no clue where I'll go next or what I'll do. But there's a lesson or few in this.

Firstly, stay the course. Do what you have to do as best you can and work towards your bigger dreams. Just when you think things may never work out, that's when something pans out. I think an optimistic spirit of acceptance helps most. I put in my order for Canada, did what I had to do and moved on cheerfully.

Maybe both are possible. Canada and Norway both hold similar appeal. And when the climate changes intensify, up north will likely be better than the hot spots of the current world. I say this only half in jest.

Life sometimes takes turns we don't expect. Whee! What a ride. Heh! Hugs for Haiti. Yay!

New day/ Heute

The optimist's creed gave me something to think about every day. Something to blog about, moreover. I have a new theme, but before I jump right into it, today feels like a good day simply to enjoy the silence, the break between the goals and the striving. Yay!

I am grateful for my life.
Hugs for Haiti.

Creed XII/ Eid XII

Promise yourself to live in the faith that the whole world is on your side, so long as you are true to the best that is in you.

The end of the creed. It's been an interesting two weeks. I think I'll go over some of the points again. But the effect of optimism is clear. My life took on a new glow with an optimistic attitude. And I shared the creed with a lot of people in my classes. We chomped over it, debated it.

In the end, it doesn't matter what I think and say, it's what I do that counts. Hugs for Haiti.

Hurra!

Creed XI/ Eid XI

My computer, or RATHER THE sERVER FOR THIS BLOG DID ANOTHER SHIFT ON ME: oops, now my computer did one too. As you can see, I type with my eyes on the keys. Never did learn to type professionally, even though I get pretty fast my way...

Anyway, the dates of the entries are misleading. Somehow, if I post an entry too early in the morning, it gets registered as the day before. I love the constant reminder of how relative time is. And it makes me certain that time travel must be possible somehow.

For today, something more mundane, back to the second to last line of the creed:
Promise to think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word, but in good deeds.

I like this one, too. But what good can I do today? I'm still working on the too noble for anger bit from yesterday.
Hugs for Haiti!

Creed X/ Eid X

Promise yourself to be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

This is another whopper. But as I go through the creed daily, I'm finding it easier to memorise and implement bits of it. Snippets come back to me on the train ride home, or in between classes, at breaktime. I don't suppose this kind of thing happens overnight.

It's the path that counts. Hugs for Haiti!

Tja.

Creed ix/ Eid ix

I love Roman numerals. Seems they've gone out of fashion, though. I guess our figures are far too big to be recorded that way any more. It's amazing how the world has changed since I was a child.
Hugs for Haiti.

Today's bit of the creed says :
Promise yourself to give so much time to improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

This suits me better than the cheery face, although the intention brought interesting results yesterday. When you open up to new behaviours and situations, funny things happen. I found myself laughing heartily with a fellow customer and the cashier at the supermarket. Rare. But precious.

Creed viii/ Eid viii

Promise yourself to wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature you meet.

This is a tough one. Firstly, what if I really don't feel like smiling? And secondly, if I do, won't they all think I'm crazy?

For it to be at all possible, I'll have to dig deep and pull out the part of me that has the permasmile potential. Theoretically, I know it's possible. It doesn't have to be a mouth smile, that would wear me down and give me wrinkles...but maybe smiling eyes I can manage. We'll see.

Hugs for Haiti.

Sonntag, 21. März 2010

Creed VII/ Eid VII

Promise yourself to forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

I really like this one. I'm a ruminator. And I probablywill never forget some of my mistakes. But that's okay. The ones that haven't made a great laugh, generally make good lessons. And I love nothing better than to learn and to grow...
Hugs for Haiti!

Samstag, 20. März 2010

Creed VI/ Eid VI

Promise yourself
to be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

Hugs for Haiti!

Creed V/ Eid V

I like today's bit of the optimist's creed:
Promise yourself to think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best.

Just having this kind of focus works miracles. I can see it in my own life. I have more energy. My cells are buzzing and my heart glowing. Today I sprang out of bed rearing to go. My back burner plan to run a half marathon is calling.

It remains to be seen whether I can implement these principles longterm, or even lifelong. But first of all, let me deal with today. Yay!
Hugs for Haiti.

Alles Gute.

Creed IV/ Eid IV

Ah. Thank God for a sunny day. It's as if the winter never existed. Birds cheeping all over the place, trees aching to bud, "springtime, springtime," they're whispering. And it matches today's bit of the optimist's creed perfectly:

Promise yourself to look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. Yay!
Hugs for Haiti.

Mittwoch, 17. März 2010

Creed III/ EidIII

Sleep is great. I am grateful for the natural rhythms of life. I'm also half asleep. Just got up to be faithful to the blog. Is that dedication, or what?
Hugs for Haiti.

The third bit of the Optimist's Creed:
Promise yourself
to make all your friends feel there is something worthwhile in them.

My friends, a sadly neglected breed of late. I haven't been very communicative while working on changing myself. But they'll understand. And love me whatever I do, however I am. Often it's an email or a phone call from a distant friend that makes my day. My week, my life. Thank God for them. May I be worthy of their friendship and love.

Gute Nacht.

Eid II/ Creed II

Hugs for Haiti.

First I spent the morning searching for peace of mind and strength. But the more you seek some things, the less likely you are to find them. Peace and calm are like that. You have to let them be. At least, that's how it works for me.

On my evening walk, I looked back and saw that they had found me. While I was going about my business in my usual way, peace and strength flooded my day and filled me with satisfaction.

So the next bit is
Promise yourself to talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
I'll see how that goes tomorrow.

Hurra!

Montag, 15. März 2010

Creed I/ Eid

Hugs for Haiti!

The Optimist's Creed begins like this:
Promise yourself
to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

It's a promise of strength and peace. But it's inner strength and inner peace, not the stuff that puts on a show for others. The best way to fulfil this is to meditate. I need to anchor myself to that peaceful place inside.

Words subside as thoughts flow by.

Optimist

Jeg er en optimist!
The first song I'm learning in Norwegian is about being an optimist. It fits. I don't understand every word yet, but I get the gist. It mentions seeking warmth in the stars...Funny, I never thought of the stars as sources of warmth before. I guess it depends how close one gets.

Ad astra per aspera was the school motto I have lived by for as long as I can remember. But maybe I've laid too much emphasis on the aspera part. I love challenges and difficulties. I thrive on applying my problem-solving skills. Sure, I love a good victory, too, or a job well done. But it never takes long before I'm looking for the next one.

Here's a good theme for the next two weeks: The Optimist's Creed by a chap called Christian D. Larson, a 1912 work I read about in Joe Vitale's book Attract Money Now. It's nice to have a new theme to blog about. Yay! See you again?

Hurra!
Hugs for Haiti.

Doubt/ Zweifel

I believe that everything turns out for the best. Always. In fact, it's my responsibility to see to it. So if a thing doesn't happen, I assume it wasn't meant to. Something as good as or better than that will. Again, it's my duty to see to it.

But sometimes the road ahead is foggy. Sometimes the next steps are uncertain. You have to reach in front of you to touch your way forward. Sometimes you fall and hurt your knees. Then you take a break and look up and wonder how far you have to go.

Maybe sometimes you're not sure if you'll make it to wherever. Or if the destination will be worth all the effort. When I feel that way, I turn inside. What else could I be doing? The main point is being here and doing my best. Even if that includes doubting sometimes, that's okay. I get up and I go on. It's that simple.
Hugs for Haiti.

Secret/ Geheim

Sleeping in means getting up at eight and feeling great. For some people, mornings are a nightmare. I love the foggy, dewy feeling of this day. It's cloaked in mystery, like life.

Inside my head, inside my heart, so much goes on that never comes to light. We spoke of the subconscious yesterday. I had the feeling I did my duty without knowing quite what it was. I'm an undercover agent for something good. And not even I am in on the secret.

Hugs for Haiti.

Imagine/ Neue Welt

Evening blogging is different. I have the day behind me. There's time for reflection and gratitude. Time to dream again. But then, I dream all the time.

We sang Imagine in class today. It's amazing how music can create feeling. We left the classroom in hope, maybe in love. God bless John Lennon for the inspiration he passed on. And bless all the people who work to make these dreams come true.

Hugs for Haiti.

Seufz. Gute Nacht!

Close/ Nah

This is one of those days when the topic is up for grabs...And the winner is? Ah, yes, the Oscars. I missed them, glad to say. Life revolved around laundry yesterday. I go to the laundromat. A lot of people can't conceive of that.

Yesterday, I saw a woman mumbling in the corner and undressing herself to pull on freshly washed clothes. She was carrying sleeping bags with her. I suspect she's a homeless person. How closely we rub clothes with people who live under very different circumstances. From Oscars and red carpets to slush and homelessness.

What a world I've created! Hugs for Haiti...

Winter

People are moaning about the snow and the fact that the winter just won't go. But I love waking up to a carpet of white and the glistening of that special morning light on frosted branches.

I'm in a poetic mood today. In poetry sometimes more is less.
Hugs for Haiti.

Dreamer/ Traumprinz

I never used to dream of princes who carried me off on white stallions. In my dreams, I was the one who rode off into the sunset. Heh! But now, with a man at my side, I am different. So...bound. The wild woman in me needs to run along the river and be free.

I think I dreamt of Norway when I was young. I did a project on its fjords in 6th grade. I think I fell in love with the place then, secretly. I think that dream has slumbered for 33 years. And now it has come back to claim its due.

Do we always do what we dream we will, even long after we've forgotten it?
Hugs for Haiti.

Hurra!

Norge

I've got this idea of moving to Norway. Yesterday, I rang up a couple places about job prospects. Luckily, people were gracious enough to speak English with me. My Norwegian's appalling. Ha!

Of course, I didn't get a job. But I've sent out applications and I am confident that before the end of the summer, I will have work there somehow. It's my clown self calling. Their system seems perfect for some clown therapeutic activity.

So yesterday, I failed. But I'm not giving up. I promised one of the men I spoke to that he'd hear from me again. Next time, I'll speak Norwegian well enough to knock his socks off. Ha!
Hugs for Haiti.

Expand/ Erweitern

Hugs for Haiti! Hugs for Chile, and for everyone in the world.

When you reach the end of your comfort zone, don't sit tight, move on! That seems to be my message at the moment. It was cosy as a couple, now we're three. And although his daughter doesn't live with us, my husband holds her presence in our home.

The whole process is making me grow and mature. As I consider what might be good for her and what's good for all of us, I am forced beyond the restrictions of my own emotional needs. The Bequia diving centre had the motto "Know your limits--and go beyond." I feel like I'm doing that now. What a ride! Whoopee! I can be more!

Hurra!

Dreams/ Träume

The participant who was the most grumpy and morose last week, reported learning success in class spontaneously. Yay! I listened to others who have been there longer. Words flow naturally, more correctly, spontaneously.

Language learning is happening. But more than that, we've begun to talk about real stuff. Yesterday, they came up with viable ideas for how to change the world. Wow! And I had information on how they could put their plans into action, if they want to. Synergy, passion, the power of a dream...All the things that make my heart throb. Yay!

Today's gonna be a great day. "We must be the change we wish to see." (Mahatma Ghandi?)
Hugs for Haiti.

Hurra!

New week/ vorbei

It was an intense weekend with lots of room for personal growth. Wow. I don't know how I did on the relationship test. All the conflict was in me. The other two did fine and it was a pleasure to witness the success of the meeting.

But it's weird feeling like the odd one out. I can relate to the step-mom dynamic.

It's not as though I'm needy or dependent, but all my insecurities and defense patterns came up. In truth, it's a relief to be back to the routine. I am grateful for my simple life. For the ice along the river, the promising morning glow, for true friends and family and all the people who love me.

Hugs for Haiti.
